FAQs

What age range is Sheru the Tiger suitable for?
Sheru can be your child's companion from around the age of 2 to 7 (age will slightly vary as each child’s development is unique).
Additionally, Sheru is a mindful tiger and he has taken into account that older kids and adults may also want to learn Gujarati but inserting the card every time may get tiresome, so he has made sure there are phonetics written on each card so the Gujarati word can be read and instead of the device, Sheru's cards can be used like traditional flashcards.

How many flashcards does Sheru come with?
Sheru comes with 112 double-sided flashcards which is 224 Gujarati words.
Do the Gujarati words have an English translation?
Yes! Sheru is a mindful tiger and understands everyone may not be able to read Gujarati so he has included the English phonetic of the Gujarati word so it can be read and pronounced and also the English translation of the word on each flashcard.
Some of the English phonetics are not identical to the Gujarati word. Why is this?
There are several letters in the Gujarati alphabet that don't have a direct english comparison. For example, ણ or ળ etc is not comparable to a specific letter in the English alphabet. Therefore, we have written the phonetics of each Gujarati word as close to the way it is spoken, rather than written so the word is recognisable when heard in a conversation.
Can Sheru easily be operated by children?
Definitely. Sheru is easy to navigate; he has just 3 buttons. On/off, volume and repeat. Your kiddos will go through a few attempts of inserting the card, figuring out what the buttons do and developing motor skills along the way until it becomes easy peasy.
How do I adjust the volume?
Use the button on the right to adjust Sheru’s volume, he has 5 volume levels. Keep clicking the button on the right until you hear the double-beep sound and that will indicate the loudest volume. Every click from that point reduces the volume by one level.
Is Sheru portable?
Yes! Sheru is fully portable and loves to travel. He also comes with a complimentary neck strap and a long battery life so you can whisk him away with you wherever you go as a fun companion.
How is Sheru charged?
Sheru is rechargeable and the USB-C charging wire is included in the product.
How long does it take to fully charge Sheru?
It takes 1.5 hours to fully charge Sheru and the USB-C charging wire is included in the product.
Can I use Sheru whilst he's recharging?
No, we don’t recommend you do this. Sheru doesn’t take long to get his energy back, just a plugged in power nap and he’ll be up and ready to play soon!
Who is Sheru?
Sheru is the voice of a beautiful mother and grandmother (AKA Sarita’s mum). Studies show that children respond more to a female voice, as this is their first and most frequent auditory exposure for the 9 months they’re in the womb. So not only was this a very sentimental decision for us, it was a scientific one too.
Is there research or evidence supporting the effectiveness of using flashcards for learning?
There is a significant amount of research supporting the effectiveness of using flashcards for learning, particularly in the areas of vocabulary acquisition, memorisation and retention as they link together words, objects, sounds and colours. Flashcards are particularly great for audio and visual learners where Sheru’s vibrant illustrations and catchy sounds will aid memory and support active-recall.
What are the advantages of using digital flashcards over traditional paper flashcards?
Digital flashcards enable a child to engage in independent learning, as opposed to traditional flashcards that require another person to play with them, as young children cannot read. Additionally, digital flashcards are multi-sensory incorporating touch, sound and visuals.
What makes Sheru unique compared to other Gujarati learning products?
Sheru is the only self-learning (screen-free) Gujarati device in the world for kids. He understands parents get busy juggling their superhero duties so he has ensured your kiddo can play without your help and learn independently, making them captain of their own ship!
I use a different Gujarati word for some of the terms. Am I/Sheru wrong?
Absolutely not! Gujarati is a vast language with different dialects depending on variations such as culture, country, community, etc. So it’s very natural that certain words may have more than one translation. For example, Salt. Many know it as Mitu, others know it as Nimak. We have tried to use the most commonly used Gujarati words so your kiddo has the best chance of understanding the language wherever they are.
My child is only just starting to learn English. Will using Sheru to learn Gujarati confuse my child?
There is a myth that learning a second language as a child will create confusion. In fact, children who grow up in multilingual homes develop stronger language skills, improved ability to express themselves, have greater cultural awareness and more cognitive flexibility. Kids have a remarkable capacity for language acquisition and can often differentiate between different languages from a very young age.
